Some Thoughts

First, BlogHer (a big blogging convention that's really well-known) just finished, and I didn't realize until after it was done how cool it would be. Not that I would have been able to get a ticket, pay for a hotel room, and get to and fro... But next year it's in New York, and I really want to go! I haven't talked to Woof about whether or not she'd be interested in going, but I really want to make this blog into something fun, informative, and a really great place for college students and their families to share experiences (with college and products, and anything else) and to come together and do things together! That's really my ultimate goal, and after hearing so much about the conference, it sounds like something that really would have shown me what I need to do next. Plus, New York has a GREAT public transportation system (I don't drive), but the tickets will sell out more quickly. Hmmm..... I guess this is as good a time to announce that I am looking for sponsors (partial or full) to attend the BlogHer Conference in 2012. If you'd like to contact me, my email is in the left column under 'PR Friendly.'

Also, while I was looking at some other blogs, I found two things that I think are awesome and I want to share with you right away. One was a Papa John's deal for a free medium pizza, and the other was a great pen-holder craft that you can do with stuff you already have in your house!

Enjoy your night, tonight is my night off of work, so I know I'll enjoy it... By entering giveaways all night!

What you need for your new dorm

This post is for students, primarily incoming college freshmen, who are looking into what they need for their first dorm room. This will not cover apartments in which there is a kitchen area/private bathroom. Most of these lists I looked at when I was a freshman were written by adults, usually posted on some college website that sells everything they list. I'm going to cut the dumb stuff and just make a general list-- if you need something else, trust me, it'll be easily available when you get there.

  • Clothes: Bring some summer/spring stuff, but bring a lot more winter/fall stuff. Pack shoes that you can walk through rivers in, if you have to, because some schools have problems with water draining slow on campus, in which case you will in fact be walking through rivers. If you're a girl, bring a TON of hairbands. You'll need them for the spring and early fall, if at no other time, and they're occasionally a lifesaver. Bring Clothespins, too, for wardrobe malfunctions and minor backpack repairs.
  • A Lamp: Do not buy a lamp with that silly little organizer at the bottom. You won't use that. Buy one that'll stay cool and light a surface. If it's colored, fine, but you're not going to impress anyone with your lamp, this is just a functional item. If it is really cheap, it'll get hot and heat up your room. With two computers running, your room may already be too hot in early fall or early spring, so you really want to minimize heat at all times.
  • Two Fans: One desk fan and one box fan. Dorms are different everywhere, but most don't have air conditioning. That means they get really hot really fast. Also, if your dorm is in a building in which each room is heated the same amount you'll really want the fans for the winter, as it'll probably get hot then, too.
  • A Mini-Fridge: The biggest is the best, but don't bring a full sized fridge, as you'll get in trouble for it. Don't bother with the expensive ones with all the bells and whistles, but try to get one with a freezer if you can. The freezer does not have to be big.
  • General First Aid: Band aids, Neosporin, hydrogen peroxide, eye drops (if you use them), LOTS of pain relievers, anti histimines that don't make you drowsy, multi vitamins (late nights will kill your immune system), Vitamin C tablets (great for when you get a cold), cough drops (in bulk!), Ice pack (if your fridge has a freezer).
  • Bathroom Stuff: If your dorm requires you to clean your own bathroom, you're going to need windex, toilet bowl scrubber, scrubbing bubbles, a sponge, toilet paper, paper towels (or regular hand towels), soap for your hands, FLIP FLOPS (trust me on this one). You also need all the stuff you would need for a shower at home: A loofah, body soap, shampoo and conditioner, razors, shaving cream (though using it in a tiny shower is rather hard), and anything else you use in the shower at home, including towels.
  • Little stuff: If you're a girl, you'll need your makeup, nail polish, lip gloss, moisturizer, jewelry and hand lotion. For everyone else, you'll need your toothbrush, toothpaste, acne stuff (if you use it), Hair gel (if you use it), Lots of chapstick, A can opener, A rubber thing to open jars, flashlight, extra lightbulbs for your lamp, and anything that can keep you prepared for an everyday situation.
  • Office Supplies: You'll need: one subject spirals. 12 of them to be safe (this should cover two semesters). Pens and pencils, pencil sharpeners if your pencils are wooden, one big extra eraser, lined paper, a lap desk (for when you're in bed sitting up working), a stapler, a three hole punch, scotch tape, duct tape, masking tape (Woof and i use this to put stuff on the walls to avoid pin holes. In most cases, pins are ok.).Markers, colored pencils, or both. At least one posterboard (for projects in which you need one, just watch for a sale). Post-its. A dry erase board for your door (even if you're the only one who uses it). Scissors (two pairs, because they're always breaking). A flathead and phillips screwdriver and a hammer.
  • Microwave: Only if you can have it. Size doesn't really matter, the RAs aren't trained to know the difference between the one that takes less power and the one that takes more.
  • Food: If you can have a microwave, go for stuff that can be microwaved. If you can't have one, you may have to resort to only having snack foods around. See if you can get in contact with someone at your school who lived in the building you're going to live in and see if there's a community microwave that you'll have access to.
  • Shelves: If you plan on bringing movies, video games, or really anything, you'll want a set of shelves. A popular way to do this is to go out the day you get into your dorm, after you measure the top of your dresser, and get a set that will fit on there. Also, get drawers for underneath your bed. As many sets as you can fit. Trust me.
  • TV: Most colleges have free cable, but even if you want to watch a movie or something, you should have a tv to do it on. Also, some professors ask you to watch something on tv for extra credit, and you should be able to do that.
  • Electronics: Don't forget all your chargers, your DVD player (or game system that can play DVDs), lots of AA and AAA batteries, cords for ALL your stuff, hair straighteners, blow dryers, curling irons, computer keyboards and mice, usb drives, computer, etc.

I know I've missed things, so this is where you come in. Take a notebook around with you for a few days and write down every last item you use during the day. Add what you feel like you need to your list. I can't know everything you need. Hopefully I've brought to mind some things you weren't thinking of before! Enjoy your first year, and let me know what else you added to your list!

Woof goes UrbEx!

August 4th, 2011

Let me start off by saying that I'm a photographer.
Today, I went on a trip with a small group of friends to my first ever Urban Exploration Expedition. I gotta say, it was incredible.

First, we stopped at a Power Plant.

This Power Plant was SUPPOSED to be deserted; it didn't turn out that way. In fact, they still use some of the substations there. First, we had to walk two blocks to even find the access point in the fence (ya know, where the chains were cut). Then, we ran across a field the size of a High School Track. After that, we climbed through a window which was roughly 3 feet long, two feet wide, and a good eight feet off the ground. It was rough; we used a cement block to hoist ourselves up. Once inside, we moved to the third floor.

Not fifteen minutes after being in the building, one of the girls was photographing by one of the old broken windows. She thought she heard voices, she looked outside..she did. Three workers in uniforms and hardhats were standing outside. One of them was on the phone. She heard him say something along the lines of "Yeah, well, we got a tip that some kids ran behind the building..so, I guess we'll bring the cops in."
Oh, shit.
One of the members of our group, the other guy (two guys, two girls) had wondered off up the stairs even further to see if he could find an access to the roof. We had NO idea where the guy went.
So the three of us are standing there, freaking out, trying to decide what to do, right? Well, we decided to book it; we had no idea what "bring in the cops" meant, and figured they'd search the place.
One of the girls called the guys phone, and he came running back down eight flights of stairs to meet us.
We went down to the first floor where we entered. We had to climb back out the window, but from the inside, there wasn't a way to climb up. We ended up using a stool to hoist ourselves up; one of the legs was broken and it wobbled like crazy. One by one, we went back out the window feet-first. We used the cement block to come back out as well, being the tallest, I exited last. No one had been holding said cement block for me, and it ended up toppling over when I stepped on it. Yeah, that was a fun fall.
We made sure we had everyone and everything, and high-tailed it back the same way we came in; running as fast as we could towards the hole in the fence.

The cops showed up just after we had all gone out of the fence; now, we were on another companies property. They were still functioning, some construction company of some sort. Probably the ones that saw us go in and called in the tip. The cops spotted us in the companies lot, and forced us to stop. When we were questioned, we said we had just been trying to find a way to the Waterfront (the Power Plant is located at a river). The cops gave us a lecture about trespassing, and told us to leave.
Oh well, better than getting arrested, right?

We continued on, after all, it was only about 9:00 AM.

Now, this is the location where we were originally supposed to travel. Thomas Edison (formally known as Julia de Burgos High) High School. Now, let me tell you all about this:

We went exploring on a Thursday. We had originally planned to travel to Edison, and the trip was to take place the day before (Wednesday). We had to change our plans at the last minute because one of the people who wanted to go had to work on Wednesday.
Well, Wednesday afternoon, a 4-Alarm Fire broke out at the abandoned school. In the front section, two of the floors burned.
Although I was/am very disappointed we didn't get the chance to walk through the school, if we hadn't changed our plans, we would have been caught in the fire, for sure.

We went today back, just to see the damage.

Like I said, the top couple floors burned. The floors collapsed on themselves. Total wreckage where the fire raged. One of the locals we talked to, located in a townhouse right across the Alley, told us they were evacuated during the blaze, it was so bad. From the sidewalk you could tell just how badly devastated it really was.

While walking around the exterior taking photos, we ran into another Urban Explorer. He was chill; he told us about another school nearby we could travel to, and he'd lead us through it. Word, dawg. We arranged to follow him there.

We continued on, and eventually ran into the owner of the building. He bought the School on June 30th. Dude, after a month and some change, there's a fire? That sucks. One of the girls asked him about the auditorium, and whether or not it had been damaged. The auditorium is stunning; it's two stories - a stage, a ground floor, and a balcony. It's amazingly beautiful, and I had REALLY been looking forward to shooting it, and was incredibly bummed out when I couldn't because of the fire. However, I got the chance to go in and shoot it!

Thrilled, we carried on, following our new buddy to the other school. It was an abandoned Elementary School - defunct in the 70s.

This school was incredible. It was ridiculously easy to get into, too. The back door was open and no one was around. Once inside, the ride was ridiculously smooth. Our new friend lead the way through the school; very knowledgeable.

I really love Urban Exploration; I've always been interested in historic and abandoned sites, and I'm very glad I did this, despite the danger. I feel I'll definitely be doing more in the future. ;P

Exploring in your backyard,

Sodastream Review

I emailed the nice people at Sodastream about a possible review opportunity without high hopes. After all, their product looked amazing, and I couldn't imagine that my little blog would qualify for their reviewing standards. When I got an email back, I was super excited and provided some information to them, then didn't hear anything for a week. Being new at this, I didn't know what to expect. Was my little blog ok? Did they decide not to do a review? Once again, my hopes were low.

Then on the day my family was going to a friend's pool, we opened the door to find a HUGE box. It was almost up to my waist, and the Sodastream logo was on the side. I was SUPER excited to get it! I carried it in and eagerly awaited the moment I could try it. Later that  night, I opened the box to find two smaller boxes and some flavors. Here's what I received: The Sodastream machine, a metal container of carbonation, a one liter bottle (empty), some instructions, 10 big flavor bottles and a pack of 3 water flavors to go with it. I put the bottle full of water into the refrigerator and read the instructions very very carefully. It turns out, that was not at all needed. This machine is incredibly easy to put together. I think even without the instructions I could have figured it out.

The machine itself is made of a strong plastic, which is great because that makes it light and easy to carry and travel with, though I haven't traveled with it yet. It doesn't plug in to the wall, so you can set it up just about anywhere, and it takes up a little more space than a 2 liter and it's a little taller, but it is very small for a machine. It also works really simply. You press a button on the front and screw in the bottle, then you press a button on the top 3-4 times until  you hear a loud buzz, then you press the first button and unscrew your bottle. The whole process takes less than a minute once you have it down. It's a little difficult at first, but it doesn't take long to find the best way to do it.

This is a picture of the machine I have. It looks bigger in this picture than it actually is.

The bottle that goes into the machine is also really well-made. I think it could probably last 3-4 years of frequent use, if not much much more. To be honest, I'm not too familiar with re-usable bottles, but this one really impressed me. They also send a cap for the bottle so that you can store your soda in the bottle it was made in until you're ready to make more. How convenient is that? You can't wash the bottle in the dishwasher, but really I've never needed to wash it out at all. Since it's made with water and flavoring (which immediately dissolves in the water and doesn't separate with time) all you need to do is rinse out the bottle 2-3 times and you've gotten out all the flavoring from before and it's clean. If you're really worried, then you can just pour some soap and water in there, close and shake it, then pour and rinse. No problem!

I also just love the many different kinds of flavors available. I got some favorites like Energy Drink (Red Bull) and Cola Free (Coke Zero) and some interesting flavors like Diet Pink Grapefruit and Orange Mango. They also sent two bottles from their naturals line, Cola Natural and Black Currant and Pear. I have tried most of these, and can say that the ones that are made after popular sodas really do taste like those sodas. In fact, my sister commented that the cola free tasted even better than normal coke zero. My personal favorite has been Energy Drink, because during school I am always drinking monster in the mornings, and I think that this would allow me to make my own and save the money, because frankly it's a HUGE difference in price. If you use your machine for that alone, you can save an incredible amount of money. To put the flavors in the drink, you take your carbonated water and fill a the cap of the drink and pour it in. Simple! You close your soda, turn it to and fro gently, and it's well-mixed. The only problem that I have with the system is that the cap of the flavor is only a little smaller than the opening of the bottle, and it takes some time to figure out how to get all the flavoring in the bottle and not on the side. I have it perfected now, but I had trouble figuring it out.

For college students, this could turn out to be their favorite gadget ever. The prices are low, so they're not spending all their money on soda, and they don't have a big bottle to worry about going flat either. On top of that, they can carry it to class like a normal re-usable water bottle. If they're an energy drink drinker, they save enormous amounts of money, and don't have to wait in line to buy their drink in the morning. They also won't have to spend much time when they wake up making soda, so they'll save up to 7 minutes every day. It doesn't sound like much, but I know that a lot of people can get a lot done in 7 minutes. Plus, it's easy to clean and the machine never gets dirty. The only thing I can think of that might be hard for college students is replacing the carbonator, which you can buy online or trade in at a store close to you (they have a list of stores that carry their products on their site). You pay about 20 dollars for an exchange, but I can say that you have 60 liters worth of carbonation from each carbonator. That means that once every two months you might have to change it out. Ten dollars a month doesn't seem unreasonable to me. In fact, that's not even 5 days worth of my energy drinks during the school year. The flavor refills themselves are around 12 liters worth, and they're about 5 dollars. Also, if you know soda the way I know soda, you'll know this next statement means something: it makes fountain-tasting soda.

If you're looking for something fun and interesting to give your college student, consider the Sodastream soda machine with some flavors! You seriously can't go wrong.

Some Updates

I feel bad that I wasn't able to keep up with the Daily Deals posts again, but I realized tonight it's just too much for me alone. I have been very busy the past few days and haven't been able to find the time to go through all those deals and update the posts. I don't want to give up on it entirely (I just love the idea of college-oriented deal posts!) so I'm going to make it once a week, when new circulars are around. That would make today the first day, I think. I'm going to update the name to be 'Weekly Deals!' and if I find something before the next week's post that will expire, I'll just make a new post about it.

There's also two things going on regarding reviews and giveaways on the blog. We have a sodastream review that will be written and posted tomorrow, and soon we'll have an awesome BatterBlaster review and giveaway! Please keep an eye out for those posts. We're also open to any pitches for products for review or review and giveaway on the blog! Every review comes with a spot under 'sponsors' for a month, starting the day the review is posted to the blog. If you'd like additional blog information, just send us an email, we're always checking it!

While this technically isn't an update about the blog, something funny happened tonight at work, and I really want to share:

I work at Mcdonald's, as some of you may know, and our store is open 24 hours, so we get all kinds overnight. Well, this group of people had ordered and eaten, and when they were done they decided to have some fun. They drove around to about 20 feet in front of the drive-thru window and one of them got out. The driver honked the horn to get my attention while I served food to someone in their car, and when I glanced up, the guy outside the car was mooning me. I only saw it for a second because honestly we were too busy for me to have the time to stare at someone's butt. The funny part is that the driver panicked when they realized I saw who they were, and started to drive away without the moon-er. He was running after the car, frantically trying to pull up his pants and yelling 'wait! Wait!' The car did stop a little ways away, but it was still kinda funny that they thought such a dumb 'prank' would bug me, and that the driver was so worried that they started to drive away. What was I gonna do?

That's all the updates I have for now. Thank you for reading!

So Very Sorry

Hello ever-faithful viewers, friends, and fans!

I regretfully tell you today that MewWoof will no longer be shipping large items outside the USA. "Large Items" will hereby be declared as "Anything that does not fit in an envelope" - such as articles of clothing or decorations or household items, should these appear in our shop in the future.

Reason being? It'd be far too unfair for ya'all to have to pay upwards to $20.00 USD for shipping. However, our decision may be subject to change in the future.

What to Expect: College Edition (Dorms)

Most universities have dorms, and if you're living away from home to go to school, chances are you're living in one. It's not weird to be worried about moving away from home and living in the dorms, but it definitely helps to hear, from a college student living on campus, that dorm living isn't that bad. I can't speak for guys as much, because I don't know the guy-roommate dynamic, but some of this will still apply.

Your Roommate: Some schools have online questionnaires for anyone living on campus who doesn't have someone in mind to live with. There are also schools that just pair you up with another random person.  My first roommate freshman year was a a complete failure, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who had issues with their first roommate, because Woof and her roommate separated second semester too. I think among girls it's a little harder to imagine an immediate hatred for one another, like most college students are fearing. From what I've heard, and my limited experience, girls are a lot more easygoing than people give them credit for. As I said before, my first roommate was a failure. She and I didn't understand each other at all, she was into fashion and partying and I was into pokemon and MMORPGs. We never fought though, despite being so different, but when the room change period came up she decided to move across the hall with a friend of hers (which was GREAT, because I essentially had a single in a HUGE room). I think in most cases, this is the sort of situation you'll run into, where if you don't 'get' each other, you just don't have any real contact. She and I used to just say hi and bye to one another every day, and that's about it. I didn't hear much about serious roommate conflict, so I think it's pretty rare. Some schools, like mine, allow you to change roommates and rooms once a semester. Other schools, like Notre Dame, allow a roommate change once every academic year. Don't worry about what your school's policy is before you need to, but keep in mind that if you freak out at your roommate for little things, trying to get her to move out at the start of the semester to get a big single, you might be stuck with her for the whole academic school year.

Your Room: This is something I was incredibly worried about when I went to college, and it's something I can't really comfort incoming students about, because there's a huge variety of room sizes on my campus, as well as room types, and I imagine it's like that everywhere. I can only tell you what's on my campus, and there will most likely be something similar to what's on yours. Some of this will definitely help you out.

  • Typical Double Dorm Room: This is pretty normal for freshmen, it's a room with 2 beds, 2 dressers, 2 closets or bureaus, and two desks with uncomfortable chairs. It can be really nice and big or it can be really tiny and unmanageable, it totally depends on the luck of the draw. I think big rooms are rare, but Woof and I have gotten them twice in a row now, so it's not impossible to be placed in them. They're typically next to the bathroom or at the end of the hall. I think there's a middle of the lane size, but I haven't actually seen it so I'm not entirely sure.
  • Singles: If you're really worried about living on campus, and you have a lot of money to spend, then you could go with a single until you find someone you'd like to room with. A single is usually a little smaller than the smallest double, and includes a bed, a dresser, a closet or bureau, and a desk with an uncomfortable chair. It's not that much fum to live in singles, and I don't know many people who do it, but it would be an ok option for first semester freshmen if they're feeling a lot of anxiety about their roommates and they really do have the money to spend. I do not suggest living in a single your whole time at school, it doesn't really lend itself to socialization.
  • Apartments: On my campus, there are two different kinds of apartments. There are the ones with the single rooms (ultra expensive) and the ones with the double rooms (less expensive). Both come with a kitchen, bathroom, and living room set up with appliances and a couch and chairs, maybe even a coffee table. They can be anywhere from 2 person to 6 person, and you'll want to check and double check whether or not the rooms are double, if you have a preference, because Woof and I learned the hard way that they aren't always up front about it. Also, sometimes freshmen can't move into the apartments, so you'll wanna check with your school.
  • Townhouses: This is the one I know the least about. I believe that they can be single or double rooms, but they're most likely a lot like apartments. Freshmen are not allowed to live in a townhouse.

I plan on covering what you'll need for your dorm in detail later, but for now that's the information I have for living on campus. Definitely contact your school to see if they carry these options and if you can get there, they might show you a 'show room' in the building you're going to live in. It may be not as big or bigger than your actual room, so you should keep that in mind if you go.

BlenderBottle Review and Giveaway (Ends 8-20) US only

We all know how it goes when you're baking. You put the ingredients together and then you whisk, whisk, whisk until it's smooth enough to bake and your arm feels like it's going to fall off. When I received a BlenderBottle, insulated sling, and recipe book in the mail, I was more than excited to try it out!

This is the recipe book I received, as pictured on their website

The first thing I did was look at the recipe book, because I had heard from other bloggers about how awesome their recipes are and I was genuinely curious about the 'shakes' I kept hearing so much about. As I was flipping through the drinks section, I saw the recipe for an 'Apple Pie Shake,' using unsweetened applesauce and knew that was what I was going to make. In my mom's house, we have can after can after can of unsweetened applesauce in our pantry, and we have long since run out of things to do with it. We're not sure how so many accumulated, but we know that the extra cans need to be dealt with, so I knew this would be a perfect way to use them! I followed the recipe word for word, and the shake really did taste like apple pie! I was so excited that I immediately told my mom about it, whom I was on the phone with while I was making it. This is definitely a recipe I will use again! There are also recipes for things like Pancakes and waffles, salsa, sticky buns, french toast, all sorts of main dishes, salads, salad dressings, marinades, and all sorts of desserts (including an interesting Powdered Sugar Drizzle that I'll have to try out soon). I am convinced that there is at least one tasty recipe in that (if not 10) that you can make today with ingredients you already have laying around in your house! Of course, I found one for my house, but I'm going back into the recipe book tonight to look for another!

This is the insulted sling I received as pictured on their website. Check out the snap that comes apart! That meant you can take off the top really easily without having to take off the sling!

I also received an insulated sling that fits the Blenderbottle perfectly, hugging it just tight enough to keep it in, but not so tight that it's hard to get on. In fact, this was the second thing I played with when I opened the package. The sling is available in lots of different designs, and I picked the Stripes 2 design. The colors were beautiful and the stitching was really really strong. Also, there's a handle over the top of the bottle, so you don't need to hold onto the bottle while you're walking, you can just hold onto the handle. I bet that handle would also allow you to hang it from the handlebars of your bike, too! I checked the stitching on the sling (one of the first things to break on most similar products) and it was extremely well stitched! I do not think this is going to break on me anytime soon! On top of that, the bottom of the sling is rubber, but it's a particularly clingy rubber (I wish I had another way to describe it that's more flattering) and it's flat! That means that I can set my Blenderbottle down in the sling and not worry about it falling over! Now let's talk about why you might need the insulated sling in the first place, besides being able to hook it onto your bike for easy travel. As I mentioned before, I made an apple pie shake with my Blenderbottle. Imagine being able to make that shake, then take it to work with you and drink it all day. Or, for college students, imagine making it right before class, then being able to drink it while you take notes. I didn't think I would care for the sling, but when I really thought about it, I just love the idea and the product and I'm so glad it was included!

The 28 oz. Blenderbottle I received, as pictured on their website.

Now on to the main event: the Blenderbottle itself. This bottle is BPA free, which is great because that means you can store stuff in it and it won't have chemicals leaking into your food! It's also a very sturdy plastic. I didn't drop it, but I'm sure if I did it wouldn't break (always a plus, right?). The top screws off, but there's a little tab that you can pull off the top to reveal a small hole you drink or pour from, which is great if you want to drink out of the bottle or you want a low-mess way to pour pancakes into a pan. My main concern about this bottle was the 'whisk' part of it being, for lack of a better word, squishable. I was worried that it might flatten itself after a while of use, because it didn't look that sturdy on the website. Well, I no longer fear that at all! I spent a good 30 minutes playing with it (not for review purposes, I'm just easily amused) and it was extremely resilient and hasn't lost its' shape at all. 30 minutes of me playing with it is probably more stressful to the spring than 30 minutes of shaking it in the Blenderbottle, so I am very confident this product will last me a long time!

This little ball is amazing!

Since I am a college student, I do think about products from that point of view, so let's go over why this would be a great present for any college student, even if they don't have a kitchen:

  • The recipe book lays out everything you need to know about every recipe, as if it were the first time you're making anything having to do with that recipe. This simplicity is really great for students who are just starting to cook on their own.
  • The recipe book also has lots of recipes that don't involve cooking, like the shakes and various dips and salads. These things are surprisingly common in dorms without kitchens.
  • The insulated sling allows for easy transportation, so students can take their creations, whatever they may be, to another dorm or to class comfortably. Even if they're traveling on a bike!
  • There are two sizes of Blenderbottle, and most college students would get a lot of use out of the smaller size, because most college students are only cooking or making drinks for themselves.
  • Both sizes would easily fit in the door of a mini-fridge. This is important to a college student. Trust me.
  • The Blenderbottle is really easy to clean. Unless you're working with something that can make you sick (raw eggs and the like) you don't even need to really wash it. After I made my shake, I just poured it into a glass and rinsed out my Blenderbottle. No fuss!
By now you're probably wondering about the word 'giveaway' at the title of this post. Well, the generous folks at Blenderbottle have offered to give away a set of: one 28 oz. Blenderbottle (your choice of color), one insulated sling (your choice of color), and one of their recipe books!

Last night, our etsy shop got 10 new additions! Yay!! The new additions include: completely unique glass phone charms and perler beads made into familiar symbols or characters!

The glass phone charms are actually something I myself started making 4 years ago as a hobby. I made them to give out to friends and family and finally thought to sell them, but never really got far because I wasn't very serious about selling them in the first place. They were all made with care, and I have hand-tested all of them. Most of them will survive a fall onto the ground (Let's just say that in 4 years using several different ones, I've never had one break, but I can imagine it happening to 1/100 of them.) and the string is INCREDIBLY strong. You can use these to pull your phone out of your pocket (my favorite), to swing it in circles, you can fling your phone using it as a catapult, you can attach it to your zippers, you can buy 5 and attach them to your lampshade for decoration... The only thing I would not suggest you do with them is put them on your keys. I've tried it, and it got tangled up one too many times for my taste. Each phone charm you buy is the only one like it, so you will always have a unique piece.

The perler beads aren't actually something I know a lot about, but I do know that they were made well (Woof is a perfectionist when it comes to something that she makes) and that you could use them as art, christmas ornaments, keychains, coasters, and Woof will make any of them into magnets if you would prefer! I happen to know that there is also a tri-force necklace available, as well, made out of perler beads!

Run on over and check out the new arrivals!

Subscribing Via Email

I know a lot of people don't like to subscribe to blogs that do daily emails and reviews and giveaways, because they see it as spam, but I thought I'd mention something I have been doing with the past few giveaways: I usually post a giveaway at night, and then those that follow me will have at least one extra entry than everyone else, and if they do both the tweet and the facebook post, they'll get TWO extra entries! This is a pretty good advantage in the smaller giveaways, and in the bigger ones you should take every advantage you can get (I know I would!). Here's a list of the current giveaways on this blog, one of which I posted tonight without advertising yet!

Handmade Spring Green Scarf - Ends 8-4

Stuff Bucket Giveaway - Ends 8-9

An Apology and an Amazon Giftcard Giveaway (Ends 8-18) (US only)

I know I haven't been around the past couple of days, and I feel bad about dropping the ball on the daily deals, but financial aid for college is kicking my butt and I've been so stressed it's crazy! I have a lot of respect for bloggers who can run a home, pay the bills, talk to PR people, email people who comment on their blog, kiss their kids' boo-boos, and still cook 3 meals a day. I have a part-time job (which I haven't been able to get back to yet), a blog/facebook/twitter, and neopets! I'm going to try to manage my time more effectively, but in the meantime, this is my apology to you guys for stopping for a couple days to get my act together: a $5 Amazon Gift Card!

If you're anything like me, you would prefer to browse online, where you can stop and eat if you need to, or look at reviews if you want to. I prefer to get products delivered to me than to get them at a store, so amazon is a lifesaver for me. Especially since I get two day shipping on most things with Amazon Prime! With the free shipping, I don't need a lot of money to get a great product, so a $5 gift card can go a long way. If you haven't set up your Amazon Prime membership and you're a student, what are you waiting for? If you're not a student anymore, don't worry,  you can get it for free for 3 months! However, you may have to cancel it in order not to get billed after that.

Please post your entries as comments on this blog post, if it says 2 entries, leave two comments. All entries will be verified, so please be honest! One participant per household. If I see anyone cheating, all your entries will be deleted, so please don't! Also, leave me your email in at least one of your comments if your profile isn't set to public. If I can't reach you, you can't win.
